How it Works
Picture Fresno is a collection of events, memories and stories captured (digitally) by community members. It's a collective lens, so to speak, of life in the heart of the Central Valley.
Each Tuesday, a new photo theme is announced. Throughout the week, community members share photos that relate to that theme—there's no restriction on when the photo was taken, as long as it's submitted by Sunday evening at 10:00 p.m. After that time, a panel of photographers and photo enthusiasts will judge the week's photos, and a favorite will be announced the following Tuesday, as a new theme is posted.
All this sounds cool, right? C'mon—you already have a camera, or a phone with a camera. And you like to take pictures. Why not share them? (Maybe you'll win something…)
Some Frequently Asked Questions*
*Questions may or may not have been asked.
Who's in charge here?
Picture Fresno is a project of Paprika Studios. Should you need to get a hold of us, we like email. You can also call James Collier at 559-892-1704.
What will you do with my photo(s)? By posting, what am I agreeing to?
Photos submitted to Picture Fresno remain the property of their respective creator(s)—we require only that you give us permission to share the photo on the site (otherwise, why submit it?). We may wish to use some photos to help promote the project—and it would be cool to see them used throughout the community—but we won't assume that you want them distributed freely. We will ask for specific permission should those opportunities arise.
Along these lines, please respect the intellectual property of others by not copying or distributing their works. Your understanding and cooperation is greatly appreciated!
What's the deal with resolution and photo size? (As in, can I submit a photo from my phone?)
Photos can come from your cell phone, your DSLR, your webcam or even an old Polaroid—they'll look best, though, if they're at least 600 pixels wide (most cameras should allow for this). Photo uploads are limited to two megabytes.
I want to protect my work. Can I watermark my photos?
Technically, we can't stop you from doing this, though photos with an identifiable watermark may be removed from judging, in order to reduce the potential for bias. Really, we'd ask that you not do this—we'll be sure to give you credit for the photo, and while we can't speak for everyone, we won't use your photos without your permission.
Any other restrictions I should be aware of?
The photo must be your photo (as in, you took the picture)—as the photographer, you're also responsible for acquiring any necessary permissions from identifiable subjects. This is a family-friendly site, so please keep that in mind, and in all activities remain courteous to other photographers and community members.
With regard to editing photos (tilt-shift app, anyone), we don't care how you edit your photos, or what you took them with, as long as you've followed the rules listed above. Creativity is welcomed!
