Meet the Judges

Each week, photos submitted to Picture Fresno will be reviewed by a panel of judges, who will identify a favorite based the photo's composition, the story it tells, and the relevance to the week's theme.

Michael Ambrose

Michael Ambrose is a fine art photographer specializing in large format images of our natural world. After graduating from Humboldt State University with a degree in fine art, Michael assisted legendary photographer Vern Clevenger for five years in the 1990’s. With that solid base under him, Michael has passionately created a body of work that that is timeless and breathtaking. As Michael puts it: “Photographs of wilderness are, for me, a way of presenting the heart of a place. Not merely scenery, I strive to bring to my viewer an essence, a voice for the stone, the leaf, snowflakes becoming glaciers, millions of years of vast stillness, storm and light.” Now collected internationally, Michael’s work is available for viewing and purchase at the Tenaya Lodge at Yosemite, and more recently, at his newest gallery space in the Iron Bird Lofts Fresno.

Tracy Dere-Ruppel

Tracy Dere-Ruppel was born and raised in the Bay Area and moved to Fresno in ’97. Tracy’s plan was to move back when school was done, but one thing lead to another and now is co-owner of Elements Design Studios, Inc., an interior design firm based out of the Central Valley, which specializes in residential and commercial design.

Tracy is married to one of the H&S Gallery owners, Steve Ruppel, who taught her graphic design skills. That ventured into Hello Tracy! Designs. The art of graphic design fills her other outlets for art. She loves design, art, color and just plain cool things.

Ryan Krauter

Ryan has been dedicated to photography for over 20 years. Living in the San Joaquin Valley has provided a unique backdrop for capturing images of valley life. Ryan began working professionally as a photojournalist for the Fresno Bee while studying Journalism at College of Sequoias. While in College, National Geographic Traveler awarded Ryan third place in their annual worldwide photo contest. He has also worked for other publications including, Los Angeles Times, Orange County Register, Associated Press, San Francisco Chronicle, and USATODAY. Ryan received his Bachelors of Fine Arts degree in Photography & Digital Imagery, under scholarship from Art Center College of Design. In 2003, images were featured in the photo book California 24/7, documenting “A day in the life”, across the U.S. Ryan has worked on campaigns for Jaguar, Acura, Lexus, International Trucks, John Deere, and Suzuki. Ryan now works as a freelance commercial photographer specializing in agriculture, lifestyle, and health industries. He lives in the Central Valley with his wife and three children.

Wilkie Kingston Kwok

Wilkie Kingston Kwok- born in Hong Kong, studied art and graphic design, and self-taught photographer. Doing freelance photography for eight years now, he is proprietor of Wilkie Kwok Photography. He mainly focuses on artistic fashion, editorial, documentary, and portrait photography. He has worked with numerous local talent including many stylists, hairdressers, markup artists, and models.Wilkie Kingston Kwok was also a nominee at the 5th Annual International Black & White Spider Awards in the Category of Portrait . Sal Hernandez

Salvador Hernandez, a Chicano & 10 year U.S. Navy veteran, was born and raised in Modesto, CA and currently resides in Fresno, CA. He is a self-taught amateur photographer with professional quality who operates his own businesses while performing freelance work. Salvador has been photographing since his teen years but after 10 years in the military and upon returning to California with his wife Veronica, he made the decision to take his photography to a more professional level.

During the first year of his return to California, he successfully turned his hobby of photography into a profiting business with both ClubFlys.com and LasherPhoto.com. Photography is his passion and now a full time investment. Days are spent creating various works from portraits to modern abstract images. His nights on the town are turned into an online catalog of the nightlife and culture from Fresno and surrounding areas.

Danielle McEntee

Danielle McEntee (pronounced MAC-INTEE, hence the "Mac") of Dani Mac Photography started out doing live music photography in Los Angeles—she admits that this was mostly so she could get into shows for free and meet musicians. After moving to Fresno, she "accidentally" (but happily) fell into the wedding photography scene. Dani Mac describes herself as a wife of one, mother of one, photographer of many. "Life is pretty much awesome...oh, and taking pictures is okay too."
