Fresno’s Mariposa Street, looking east from Broadway, circa 1890. The years from 1885 to 1890 saw extraordinary growth in Fresno. The population grew from 3,500 to 10,890 residents. Along a six block stretch of Mariposa Street (as seen in this photo) one million dollars was expended on business, bank and hotel construction. Photograph from Fresno Historical Society Archives.
