This is a homeless man named Walter I met on the Magnificent Mile in Chicago. He didn't ask for money as people walked by, he just had his cup labeled "food" sitting out in front of him, and would say hello to those passers by who acknowledged him and offer kind blessings to those who would pause to talk with him for a moment. When I sat with Walter on the sidewalk, he told me about the job he used to have and his time spent at university, including how he felt when he graduated. Having no family and an ongoing medical situation with endless bills, when he got laid off he was left on the streets.
